The world’s vaccines have made rapid progress in recent years, especially with the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this context, the development of new vaccines does not only focus on the SARS-CoV-2 virus but also covers various other endemic and epidemic diseases. mRNA technology, initially introduced by COVID-19 vaccines such as Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, has paved the way for new ways of designing vaccines for other diseases such as influenza and HIV. Progress in vaccine distribution has also been very significant. Countries around the world have collaborated through systems such as COVAX to ensure equitable vaccine distribution and accessibility for developing countries. This initiative not only includes the COVID-19 vaccine, but also vaccines for existing diseases such as measles, polio and hepatitis B. However, the challenges faced in global vaccination are quite complex. One of the biggest issues is the gap in vaccine access between developed and developing countries. Although some vaccines have been found to be effective, equitable distribution remains a problem due to limited infrastructure and resources. In addition, logistical problems in storing and shipping vaccines that require very low temperatures are a significant obstacle. Another challenge arises from increasing skepticism towards vaccines. Misinformation on social media has raised public doubts about the safety and efficacy of vaccines, potentially hampering global vaccination efforts. Public education and transparent communication about the benefits of vaccination are key to overcoming this anxiety. Governments and health institutions must invest more in public communications to increase trust among the public regarding vaccines. Vaccine technology innovation also needs to be balanced with policies that support its development. International cooperation is essential to share data and research, and support scientists in the development of more effective vaccines. Apart from that, increasing vaccine production and storage capacity in developing countries is also very necessary so that they can be independent in vaccination. Although big challenges lie ahead, many experts are optimistic that innovation in the vaccine field will continue. Research is currently focused on developing a universal vaccine for the influenza virus, as well as efforts to find a vaccine that can fight multiple types of viruses in one shot. The success of vaccination in the future will depend heavily on global collaboration, research innovation, and increasing public awareness about the importance of vaccination. As the world continues to adapt to new health challenges, a focus on safe and effective vaccines must remain a top priority on the global health agenda.
