Slot

A slot is a position in a group, series, or sequence. It can also refer to an open time on a calendar or an assignment to a job or task.

A type of machine that pays out prizes according to a predetermined pay table when the symbols listed on that table line up on the win line of the machine. These machines are commonly known as casino slots or fruit machines and have been around for decades. While they have evolved from their original mechanical versions, the core principles remain the same.

The slot> element, part of the Web Components technology suite, lets you define a place in a child component’s markup for specific reusable logic and visual output. You can specify a named slot in the same way you would a scoped function.

A slot’s name can be anything the developer wants, but it must be unique in the DOM (it cannot overlap with other elements or child slots). If the identifier is not specified, the parent component will generate one. The identifier can be used to reference the slot in other XML documents, such as with a slot> in a fancyList>.
